This chapter took a while to complete, partly because my wife Joan became ill during this time. In October of 2014 we discovered she had lung cancer, which was already far advanced. She passed away in February of 2015.

We were together for over 14 years, married for 12. During some unsteady times in my life, she was a rock, something solid that I could always count on. She left behind a daughter, three granddaughters, a lot of quilts, and a lot of love.

The character of Joan Generic (based on real-life Joan) will still appear in the comic occasionally. I've already got a lot of the story plotted out, and she has a small but important part to play.

If you would like to do something in her honor, please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society. Thanks.

Ed, my deepest condolances I've lost far too many friends, relatives, and acquaintances to cancer. Our thoughts are with you through this terrible time.

:( Wish I could say something to make it easier. Maybe "Plungi". It's hard to frown while saying something that silly. Stay close to what you love in life... it'll give you strength when sorrow kicks you in the nuts.
