Late again ... That must be some pretty important stuff in there. Is there some way to stop these two? Click on the TWC vote link to find out ... UPDATE: a convenient voting button for TopWebComics has been added! Just click on the TWC button to vote ... help keep "Everyday Heroes" in the Top 100!

Did you notice this guy appeared on the first page of this chapter? Hmmm ... makes you wonder if the third guy there might show up sometime? (Not in this chapter, at least.)

Well, it's still Monday in most of the USA as I get this updated. As I said, family was visiting from out of town over the weekend, so not much time was spent drawing. Now I have to get caught up on the house repairs. What fun.

Summer's coming (not the character, the actual season).

About filking... A question about the filks you write and share with the Skin Horse readers... how do you approach them? Do you start by picking a song from your prodigious library? or does a lyric pop into your head and you match it to something that kinda feels right? Do you sweat for hours matching rhymes or does it flow naturally? Have you practiced filking for a long time? I've written one or two parody songs (and one filk which was lost with WCN) but your talents amaze me.

Pastangum Felinix

and on the comic: that guy clearly didnt notice the superhero down the aisle. (Yes there are two, but she's incognito.)

@Pastangum: For my Skin Horse filks, usually something in that day's strip reminds me of a particular lyric. As for rhymes, some of them come naturally ... if I get stuck, I go to (very handy reference).

I grew up on Mad Magazine and Dr. Demento, so filking came to me fairly young. Back in junior high, a friend and I wrote a parody of sex ed, to the tune of the theme from "Love Story". I did a few in the 1990's (one of which may show up in this comic someday), but didn't start doing them on a daily basis until about 2008 (for Skin Horse and Narbonic: Director's Cut).

TWC link I still don't see the TWC link. I voted using the url from previous comments, but where is the link? Did it change what it looks like?

Reply Eddurd, June 3rd, 2015, 7:39 am

@Lil Sis: ...aaaand no sooner do I add it, then TWC goes down. Right now I'm just seeing the "broken link" icon ...

UPDATE: looks like TWC is back up again! The vote button is right above the comments.

Pharmacy Philk I wanted to challenge myself, and as I had today free I decided to write one for the master of the art. ... It's harder than it looks! I started thinking about it maybe 2pm, got serious about 6pm, and it's now a few minutes before 2... AM. Lucky I'm a night person.

filk based on "Holding Out for a Hero", with apologies to Bonnie Tyler

At the store one Thursday morning on a busy shopping spree,
Give my name and pick up my pre-scription at the pharmacy...

Out of nowhere comes a robber with a family to feed,
But I won't give up so ea-si-ly to his cold greed!

My medication!
I need the medication that I came here to get
I'm telling you no,
and I'm not letting go,
I won't lose this package to a nitwit!

My medication!
I'm here for medication that I still need to take
That dirtbag just might
be in for a fight,
and I hope that the bag doesn't break...

Hey, Ed! I wondered what had happened to the site, just found this again and am reading back.
And, can I say I miss the old forward, back, ect, buttons with Mr.Nighty in the bathrobe, looking back, ect? Will you be adding them back if you stay here, or is that too much of a pain? Heck, I'm just glad Everyday Heroes hasn't gone kaput!

Reply chicgeek (Guest), June 4th, 2015, 11:36 am

Whoops! Typo! I said Mr. Nighty instead of Mighty, and can't go back to fix it. That would be a very different comic, indeed.
Edit-okay, seems I can edit it. But I'll leave it because it's funny.
